Frequently Asked Questions

Why hire a tutor?

If you are looking to improve your Mathemetical skills, finding the right Maths tutor is the most effective strategy you can employ. Learning from someone who has extensive experience in the area within which you wish to excel is a huge benefit. You will have heard this in many other aspects of life where the teacher is usually referred to as a mentor. Learning the fundamentals in the right order with key insights highlighted along the way will totally change your understanding of Maths, turning those questions which seem like another language into simple step by step solutions. If you're looking to improve your grade, your understanding, reduce exam stress or get into your dream university, get in touch.

How is tutoring different from learning in school?

The most important aspect when learning GCSE and A-Level maths is identifying the fundamental connections early on and getting them to stick. If you approach every type of question individually without observing the connections which run through the entire syllabus, the exams are going to feel incredibly long and difficult. So how does a tutor help with this? A reasonable question you might ask is 'presumably this is taught in school?' Unfortunately, a lot of the time, it's not. Why is this? Practical restrictions. Schools have a huge amount to deal with. Maths teachers are responsible for teaching 15-30 students at a time and this time is limited. With a tutor, you have infinitely more 1 on 1 time to ask questions and get detailed answers. To ask questions you need to feel comfortable and students often feel uncomfortable asking a question in class. It is easier to ask a 'silly' question 1 on 1. If you ask the question in a school class you may receive a repeat of the initial explanation given to the class which you didn't understand in the first place. What do you do then, ask again? We have made an extraordinary effort and spent a lot of time identifyin the key parts of each syllabus, the most common mistakes, the hardest topics and the skills which need to be honed to get the best exam results possible.

Can we take classes online?

Yes, we teach exclusively online. Along with many others, we switched exclusively to online learning in 2020 and it has been hugely beneficial for both us and our students.

What does the free introductory call involve?

It is an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have. We will discuss your requirements (day, time, number of sessions, awarding body etc) and allow us to identify exactly how we can help increase your grades.

How do I book a session?

Simply enter your details in the form at the bottom of this page and we will get back to you within 24 hours. Alternatively contact us via email - tutor@mathsready.org. We will arrange a free introductory call at your convenience.

What can I expect from the sessions?

During the first session we will go through our own carefully constructed set of questions which are designed to hone in on the key underlying concepts of your syllabus. These questions focus on the essential material often overlooked in schools. Analysis of official past paper questions are also a key component. Learning from the textbook is useful, but it doesn’t necessarily translate to results.

Can I change the date / time of my session if something urgent comes up?

Sessions are booked in minimum blocks of 5. We allow 1 session in each block of 5 to be rebooked free of charge.

Can I bring my own questions to the session or do you follow a strict plan?

Of course you can. Not only can you, we encourage you to do so. We like to focus on the topics you find the most difficult. Asking questions is a key part of the learning process.

Can I add in additional sessions closer to exam time?

Yes. We understand that being able to access additional assistance at a very stressful time can be a game changer. Just ask, and we will do everything we can to book you in. We always open up additional slots during this period and if we think this would be beneficial for you, we will suggest it as a possibility.
